I've had a CI for 9 years now. I have over 100 db of loss in both ears for almost 40 years. I hear nearly everything now but I do not understand words well. 40 years was too long. If less than 10 years, maybe it would be better but if it has been too long, the CI is not an improvement in the quality of life. When I visit the speech pathologist for adjustments to the CI, sometimes it gets better, sometimes it gets worse. There is still much for the CI companies to learn, though it is very nice to hear my hearing wife's voice and my daughter's voice for the first time. I have no regrets for getting the CI. I must turn the CI off when I sign. It is too confusing to sign when I can hear.

well i understand who wants to be a cochlea implant. there is nothing against ci because they feel want to be learning how to acknowledge sounds. people who can hear less decibels 50% and should be fine... kaiser permanete suggested me to ci but i don't want to use ci because i work navy hospital. it sounds air base so much... i prefer wear hearing aid which would be less head/earache...

I am hearing myself but my husband is Deaf. I like watching net sign news but am not proficient enough at sign to catch everything being said, i really appritiate when the program is translated for the hearing. This helps me to improve my sign and be able to know what is going on in the deaf community when i talk to my husband. Please have traslations on all the reports.

I wish people would stop talking about Cochlear Implant it just hurts me watch alot news and deaf community have so much against it . I was nine years old got a CI and now im 25 so for many years it didnt bother me with sounds or anything if it overwhelmed computer can adjust the sound through program chip to ur ci Processor. It really silly for me watch this and how deaf community think we robots and stuff. My parents never knew about deaf culture so i dont blame them for wanting me to hear for them to communicate with me Im part of both world there nothing wrong with CI it just like Hearing Aide as Human Being. Please Leave that Issue and Subject alone it does Hurt me alot hearing about this subject.

I do not support the CI because of what it represents. To me, it is just another device and method that is being forced on deaf people and deaf children to make us something we are not. The deaf people are the end results of all the grand experiments from A G Bell to the CI and you would think the "so called professional experts" would listen to us about the failure of their devices and methods, but no they know what is best for you. They have deprived us of our ability to read and write English the gateway to education. The end result is deaf people end up embracing ASL, deaf culture, and deaf history anyway.
