May 10, 2008: 08:47 PMIn response to Amy: I'm a hearing individual who recently started learning ASL, and I'm completely infatuated. I can't get enough. I can't stop. I constantly fingerspell random words during speaking conversations and it drives my girlfriend crazy. There are instances in world history of predominantly hearing populations that were also predominantly sign adept or capable. For example: Martha's Vineyard, Adamarobe, Kata Kolok, and Yucatec Maya Sign Language. All of these communities feature (or featured) relatively high levels of deafness (as high as 2%). But I believe there must be some other key embedded in these historical incidents which can help the proliferation of ASL throughout the United States and hopefully the world. I study these topics for selfish reasons, I'm tired of spoken so-called "communication." Sign Language forces people to focus on each other when they converse. I feel like I have a better understanding of my new signing friends and fellow students than I do of some of my co-workers, who I see for 8 hours a day and have worked with for over a year.

May 06, 2008: 08:21 AMI just watched Pat and Tommy and fully agree with them regarding the film "Sweet Nothings".Until they brought it up, I really never thought about the fact that the issue of the CI implants was left "hanging". It is true that there was no commentary at the end of the film regarding the outcome of the situation. I would like to say "bravo" to Pat and Tommy for bringing this to light! Thanks guys! James S London of Henderson, Nevada. Keep up the good work at Netsign folks!
