Jun 13, 2008: 02:26 PMI really agree with your opitions about dressing nice and being aggrastive; dont mean a cruel personally but showing a action that person can do the better than being on the loose muscle that boss would be interested for a person with a motive interesting into taking job. I been having diffcult time motiving with those jobs which most my fear for their company judging my hearing loss being deaf. which i am the mother of my two daugthers. and still using ssi. my goal not to give up to get my full support to get my best job and have a filling life to support for my families. I really pleasure with your helpful thoughts in your nsn opition it really got me into a ideas of doing something before to late. Have a nice day! God bless =-)

Jun 01, 2008: 09:35 PMIt is sad that 60 percent of deaf people have no job.In my old times (1968 to 1989), I was lucky to get a job easier than today. Two weeks after graduation, I got a good job. I was a pioneer twice at two different companies working with engineers and draftmen. Just image I was survived with no sign language interpreter. I used to write back and forth for my communication with coworkers. I taught my boss and two coworkers sign language during our one hour lunch. From 1999 to 2007, I was working on another job as a school bus transportation aide for eight years. I did not enjoy that kind of job but I had to work for earning money for my bills and things I needed. I met a deaf young man age 21. He told me that he quit for working only a few weeks because he did not like a job. I told him not to give up and continue till he gets another job. It was sad that he said that he refused to work if he does not like it. Be thankful for my hearing parents for their good example that they worked hard and were happy that they had a used house and two used cars even though their incomes were low with no health benefits for years. I learned to accept any job that company gave me and gave my good example to hearing coworkers and my skill would impress them. That would lead me to a higher position. From 1999 to 2007, I could not afford to quit my another job as a school bus transportation aide for eight years because I continued to hunt for another job and could not have one chance for one interview after I sent many job applications to the companies. Finally I got anothe job in March, 2008 as an ASL instructor for several classes plus teaching one on one.I feel sad that many young deaf people do not have any jobs today due to discrimination, and economy and also many young deaf people I know , do not bother to hunt for jobs and rather stay on SSI for a good time.
